An Interview With Ugly Clinic | UDS Interviews

Check out our recent interview with punk rabble rousers – Ugly Clinic!

For the unfortunate few who don’t know who you are, would you mind introducing yourselves?

Chloe: I’m Chloe. I sing, sometimes shout… and I like beer! A lot.

Pete: I’m Pete the Riff, and I play the rhythm guitar.

Richard: I’m Richard, the younger guitarist, I take up the lead guitar as Pete’s fingers don’t move the same in his old age.

Davie: I’m Davie the bass player. I’m also the aggressive one, or that’s what they tell me. But in reality I’m everyone’s friend, or as Chloe says I’m the dad of the band. Although I’m not the oldest, that trophy belongs to Pete.

Jed: I’m Jed, the one that hits things and makes a bunch of noise.

Ugly Clinic: And we all make up the band Ugly Clinic!

In the effort of getting know each other better – if you could be a sandwich, what sandwich would you be?

Chloe: I’d be a MANWICH. Towering beef, chicken, gravy, bit of salt, cheese, BBQ sauce… more cheese.

Pete: I would like to be John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, because then I would be fondly remembered every time someone made themselves a sandwich.

Richard: I’d be a meat feast. I’ve got a good bit of meat on my bones, but satisfying to the taste!

Davie: Ploughman’s lunch. You know, chunky bread, cheese, onion and pickle. No messing, nothing fancy, what you see is what you get, don’t like it, don’t eat it!

Jed: A knuckle sandwich.

Tell us about your latest release…

Ugly Clinic: That’ll be our second single ‘Pink Speed and Tequila’. We love playing this song live. Pete likes to do a bit of a false intro to this one, usually something by The Clash, but we never know what one it’ll be. It’s a fast paced, hard hitting, riff-y rock tune. Get in your motor, roll the windows down, crank it up to 11 and have a blast with this one!

Have you had a chance to tour recently?

Ugly Clinic: We wish! At the moment, we’re not even allowed to tour our own gardens! We all love playing live and we’re itching to add to the half dozen gigs we’ve played so far. Once this COVID-19 gets to f**k, we’ll be making up for it, hopefully gigging somewhere near you!

Have you got any crazy tour stories you can share with the world?

Chloe: Not really, not yet. We can see many to come though. We always have a good laugh when we’re doing gigs. When we played Inverness, Chloe and Richard ended up in a karaoke bar singing ‘Shallow’, ya know the Lady Gaga one. That was an awfully different scene compared to the gig we had just played.

Pete: I will admit to once stealing all of John Martyn’s (1970’s/1980’s singer-songwriter, for all the youngsters out there) rider at a festival. And then helping to drink it.

Here at Upside Down Shark we discuss a wide breadth of pop-culture, including music, movies, TV, video games and the like. So with that in mind, if you could have a track featured in anything, whether it be any of the above on even a wrestling theme, what would it be?

Chloe: I think they should make a new Fallout game and instead of the likes of the Diamond City Radio (which I would cover every song heard on there if it were up to me), have a punk style radio station playing Ugly Clinic’s ‘Pink Speed and Tequila’!

Pete: I would like to write a new theme tune to the BBC 6 O’Clock News. The current tune is rubbish, it just doesn’t rock at all.

Davie: I’d love our music to be everywhere. We’ve got a new song, not recorded yet, called ‘More Than Me’. I would love that song to be in a Terminator movie or one off the debut album ‘Hot Knife’ in a Tarantino movie starring Chloe as a serial killer, that would be cool!

Richard: I’ve always loved the idea of one of our songs being the entrance music to a wrestler. Like Edge has Alter Bridge – ‘Metalingus’. I’d love Kevin Owens or Drew McIntyre to use ‘Pink Speed and Tequila’.

Jed: I would love to hear ‘Pink Speed and Tequila’ in the original Doom video game.

Name one thing on your band bucket list

Pete: A new bucket.

Richard: I think a goal for a few of us in the band would be to play the main stage at Download festival…. or any stage at Download festival. Get in touch Andy Copping, we’re free!

What would be your inspirational quote to share with the world?

Chloe: “Take the car. Go to mum’s. Kill Phil, grab Liz, got to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. Hows that for a slice of fried gold?”

Pete: “Good artists borrow, great artists steal”. That’s a quotation widely attributed to Picasso, but actually it was me that said it first.

Davie: “Don’t be a hologram, have substance”

Richard: “Let off some steam, Bennette”

Jed: “Drink up”

What does 2020 have in store for you?

Ugly Clinic: Assuming we’re still alive come summer, some fresh air and a sun tan, and then maybe album number 2 and loads of gigs, hopefully!

What’s your favourite shark?

Chloe: The mechanical shark from season 3 episode 6 of Bob’s Burgers. Hands down.

Pete: I’d like to name him Colin. That’s definitely a real name, not fictional.

Davie: Favourite shark has always been the hammerhead. Looks like a b*****d but isn’t really… just like me, although I’ve got a small head with my eyes to the front, most of the time.

Richard: The shark from Resident Evil. Not sure if its my favourite, but its my most memorable. That f**ker scared the s**t outta me when I was a youngster.

Jed: Bruce the shark from Family Guy of course!
