Watch our interview with alternative metal powerhouse Vespera…
Vespera are back, and their return has been a long time coming.
In this interview, we sit down with Vespera to talk about The Thoughts That Plague You, the setbacks that nearly brought the band to an end, and why they’re finally ready to begin a new chapter.
Originally conceived as one complete 14-track album, The Thoughts That Plague You instead emerged across three separate EPs as Vespera dealt with cancelled tours, the pandemic, a stolen trailer, a touring vehicle being hit and ultimately almost five years away from the band. Now, Vespera are finally presenting the record in the sequence it was always intended to be heard.
We talk about looking back at music written during a very different period of their lives, the themes of anxiety, self-erasure, addiction, anger, recovery and identity running through the record, and how time away has changed their relationship with those songs.
We also get into what happened to Vespera after they disappeared from public view, the experience the members gained working and touring elsewhere, rebuilding completely independently, and what the future of the band looks like as they prepare for new music and a return to the road.
If you’re already a Vespera fan, this is the story behind a record that never really got its chance the first time around. If you’re discovering them for the first time, there’s probably never been a better point to jump in.
