Mira Disconnect frontman Tom Hewson joins UDS to talk about the UK alt-rock/post-hardcore band’s new EP Entangled, the story behind new single I.D.A, and what comes next for one of the most exciting heavy bands emerging from the North East.
Set for release on 4th November 2026, Entangled is a three-track EP recorded at Steel City Studios in Sheffield and sees Mira Disconnect pushing their mix of huge riffs, cinematic choruses and emotionally charged songwriting further than ever.
In this interview, Tom talks about the deeply personal inspiration behind I.D.A — a track confronting anxiety, panic attacks and the toxic idea that poor mental health is something you can simply “breathe through” — as well as why the band wanted the music itself to capture the overwhelming feeling of disconnection.
We also get into Mira Disconnect’s DIY approach to being a band, maintaining creative control over their music and videos, working with producer Callum Benson and plans to take Entangled live.
Plus: the origins of the Mira Disconnect name, dream video game and movie syncs, the lost art of physical media, Bandcamp, forgotten bands from the early 2000s, an unexpectedly detailed discussion about sandwiches… and Tom reveals his favourite shark.
Formed in 2022, Mira Disconnect blend the grit of ’90s alternative rock with modern post-hardcore, combining massive riffs and hooks with raw, introspective songwriting. Following their previous EPs Friends Making Friends and Affinity Aversion, the band recently recorded a BBC Introducing live session with Jericho Keys and released the official video for I.D.A.
