An Interview with Aspherium | UDS Interviews

Check out our recent interview with Norwegian death metal titans – Aspherium!

For the unfortunate few who don’t know who you are, would you mind introducing yourselves?

Aspherium: Hi! I’m Marius. I play guitar and sing in a Norwegian progressive death metal band called Aspherium!

In the effort of getting know each other better – if you could be a sandwich, what sandwich would you be?

Aspherium: I would absolutely be this egg and bacon baguette they have at this place I pass every day. It’s basically scrambled eggs, bacon, bell pepper and some mayo I think. It’s not too complicated, it get’s the job done really well, and it tastes great.

Tell us about your latest release…

Aspherium: We released our third album in September, so that’s still pretty new! It’s a concept album about our world as a wasteland after humanity messed things up, and about what went wrong. We put a lot of hard work into the songwriting, and how everything flows together. We are super proud of this album!

You’ve been touring in support of the album. Howhave you found the tour?

Aspherium: So far we’ve only played in Norway, but it’s gone really well. People really seem to dig the new stuff. We had to take a break for a few months while our drummer undergoes surgery for his wrists, and deals with restoration. So that put a little pause on our plans. But we will be back out and playing in April!

Have you got any crazy tour stories you can share with the world?

Aspherium: Honestly the craziest thing is that we got to tour with Decapitated. Twice. So damn cool!

Here at Upside Down Shark we discuss a wide breadth of pop-culture, including music, movies, TV, video games and the like. So with that in mind, if you could have a track featured in anything, whether it be any of the above on even a wrestling theme, what would it be?

Aspherium: It would be awesome to make music for a video game. We could make something pretty sick for Doom Eternal. Mick Gordon is great. But the ultimate would be for a Halo game. Halo was a big inspiration in the beginning of the band. Less so now, but there’s a lot of Halo references in our lyrics, particularly on the first album.

Name one thing on your band bucket list

Aspherium: To tour outside of Europe. Australia or USA or something. One day!

What would be your inspirational quote to share with the world?

Aspherium: Always look on the bright side of life (whistling).

What does 2020 have in store for you?

Aspherium: We are working on some new music, but nothing more to announce there yet. We do want do have shorter waits between releases, though. We’re also working on some more video content. And there will be live shows promoting the new album, of course.

What’s your favourite shark?

Aspherium: There was a shark character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I can’t remember if he was
on the cartoon, but he was in the 90’s comics at least. I remember him being really cool.
So cool that I’ve forgotten his name. Let’s call him Sharkatello. Or Sharkwing Shark.
