An Interview With Tarah Who? | UDS Interviews

Check out our recent interview with Tarah G. Carpenter and Coralie Herve from the punk rock powerhouse Tarah Who?

For the unfortunate few who don’t know who you are, would you mind introducing
yourselves?

TGC: My name is Tarah, I am the vocalist and guitarist of Tarah Who?, a 90’s sound like, raw energy,  power duo from Los Angeles.

CH: I’m Coralie and I’m the drummer of Tarah Who?.

In the effort of getting know each other better – if you could be a sandwich, what sandwich
would you be?

TGC: Hmm… Avocado toast, does it count? with an egg, tomatoes and extra cilantro and lime.

CH: BLT for sure!

Tell us about your latest release…

TGC: We released a single called “Pantomath”, it is available on iTunes, CDBaby, Spotify, etc. We are really excited about this new song. It is upbeat, fun, light, and so far we have only had good reviews. I think this song is a bit more commercial than what we usually do, and that is what we were trying to achieve.

The song itself is about ‘Mansplaining’ but also about, if there was a ‘formula’ to success, would we want to know it, or would you rather struggle a bit, learn and choose your options at the risk of not knowing or not accomplishing your dreams.

How have you found touring around the world?

TGC: I personally love touring, especially the UK. I have only had good times in the UK, and the last shows, we played with our friends Yur Mum. It is always a good time with them but also, they are like us, super down to earth and musicians to their core. They are fun but they take their job seriously. Touring with them is always a good time for all of those reasons… and their music rocks! It was our first time trying out as a duo, and we have had an amazing time and experience. The response from our fans was phenomenal. People really supported us, and enjoyed watching two chicks rocking out. Coralie and I drove many hours cross country (and countries); we got to visit a few places and see some friends, went horse riding, and visited the aquarium in Atlanta and the Coca Cola factory. We usually don’t have time to be tourists anywhere but we were lucky this past tour because once we drove the big distance, every show was only 3 hours away. The only downside was that it got cold and rainy and Coco [Coralie] got sick.

CH : I really like touring because I discover new places, new people, but we are independent so we do everything by ourselves and it is pretty tiring sometimes.

Have you got any crazy tour stories you can share with the world?

TGC: Yeah for sure we have a few! Some we cannot tell! A good one from our last tour was arriving in Murray, KY. I was an exchange student when I was 15, so we went to say hi to my host family. Brenda is the name of my host mom from Murray. We were cracking up because Brenda wanted to find us a show that same night or the next day I think, in the small town of Murray. We followed her around town asking every dive bar if we could play, or if we could get the phone number of the owner of one popular bars. Since it is a small town, tt went like “go to this place, he might be there” and so on. We stopped at a place where they were having a sand bag contest or something like that?  I forget what It is called!

We ended up at the coffee shop in town, and Brenda stole people’s information because she knew they had an account there! We didn’t play there, too short notice, but we got a few bookers’ info, and the adventure going through the steps was very entertaining!

Here at Upside Down Shark we discuss a wide breadth of pop-culture, including music,
movies, TV, video games and the like. So with that in mind, if you could have a track featured in
anything, whether it be any of the above on even a wrestling theme, what would it be?

TGC: Pantomath for sure! During a men’s oil wrestling contest.

CH : I think that Pantomath will work in a video game like Call Of Duty, for example.

Name one thing on your band bucket list…

TGC: We had the chance to be selected for the Grammys 2019 (the step before the actual nomination) and that was already a big surprise. I never thought that we could have our name next to TOOL. Now that this has happened, I want to get an actual nomination.

8. We also like to advocate positivity here, and one of the ways we like to do that is through

inspirational quotes. What would be your inspirational quote to share with the world?

TGC: “Who gives a shit?” as in be yourself, do your thing, be happy and surround yourself with people who pull you up, and for those who don’t understand you or support you, or who judge you…. “who gives a shit?”

They live THEIR life and you should live YOURS.

CH : I’ll say “Live your life and rock on!”

9. What does 2020 have in store for you?

TGC: We have a few shows to get us ready for our WEST COAST TOUR in March/ April. We are also preparing for a live video and music video. I am releasing more episodes of our documentary.

We are also working on a new EP and an East Coast tour.

Stay tuned for dates!

10. Name your favourite shark!

TGC: I like Grey Shark and Whale Sharks. We saw a few Whale Sharks at the aquarium, they were massive. Is that a personality test question?

CH : I like the Tiger Shark and Hammerhead Shark.
