An Interview With Fires of Freya | UDS Interviews

Check out our recent interview with Newcastle’s finest – Fires of Freya!

Answered by Cheryl Reynolds of Fires of Freya

For the unfortunate few who don’t know who you are, would you mind introducing yourselves?
Fires of Freya:
Hello! We are Fires of Freya, Rock band from the North East England. Cheryl Reynolds is our lead vocalist and Keyboard player, Shaun Evans is on Guitar, James Withington on Bass Guitar and Dan Evans is our Drummer.

In the effort of getting know each other better – if you could be a sandwich, what sandwich would you be?
Fires of Freya:
Steak and Cheese, but since we are able to choose anything we will go with a proper steak like fillet or better! Because steak goes with everything!

Tell us about your latest release
Fires of Freya:
On the 21st of February 2020 we will release our 2nd single “Complicated”. It’s bouncy rock with keys and riffy guitars and a little bluesy too! It’s mainly about a situation where you want something or want to be with someone and they either don’t feel the same or can’t because they are not in the right frame of mind, but it does have a mix of situations within it.

How are finding touring currently?
Fires of Freya:
We haven’t been touring yet, although we’re planning mini tours this year of the UK in the build up to releasing our debut album, due for release at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021. All going well, we hopefully will have a better answer for you next time on this one.

Have you got any crazy tour stories you can share with the world?
Fires of Freya:
Last year we played a festival called Rock the Point, I think it’s now going to be known as Bear Fest and have more than just rock. We arrived to a massive tent and a brilliant crowd! It was a great gig! The after party was brilliant though! Musicians for all the bands got together and we all randomly played till about 5am in the morning! I was playing what I can only describe as a log with a wooden stick! Shaun was playing guitar and there was an open bar (big barrels with drinks and ice in them, and fridges stocked with lots of wine, yum!). I returned to a blown down tent as it was a tepee, not waterproof and we set it up on the beach front! I then beached my car trying to get out, a lovely lady who was out walking her dog ran all the way home to get us a shovel to get out! That was fun!

Here at Upside Down Shark we discuss a wide breadth of pop-culture, including music, movies, TV, video games and the like. So with that in mind, if you could have a track featured in anything, whether it be any of the above on even a wrestling theme, what would it be?
Fires of Freya:
Think the guys would love one of tracks on an F1 race broadcast like “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac, or a part of their song! The guys love motor racing so I imagine they would die of happiness if we ever achieved such a thing! We have had our track “Give a Reason” featured in 2 short films by Velton Lishke which were nominated for numerous awards! That was pretty cool!

Name one thing on your band bucket list
Fires of Freya:
A UK/Worldwide tour and to pack in the day jobs! That’s the main aim to support ourselves with our music, that would be us living our best lives.

What would be your inspirational quote to share with the world?
Fires of Freya:
“If it’s for you, it won’t go by you”

My nana used to say that all the time and my mum and I’ve somewhat lived by it. I guess it’s a take on if it’s meant to be it will be but stronger in that good things are meant to come to us and it’s up to us to take the opportunities when they arise.

What does 2020 have in store for you?
Fires of Freya:
UK mini tours, a few single releases, and the making and release of our debut album! We’ll probably throw in a few music videos to that mix and try to play more festivals if we can get the chance to.

Name your favourite shark (can be real or fictional).
Fires of Freya:
Bruce from Finding Nemo
