An Interview With Dialekt | UDS Interviews

Check out our interview with Mat, from international rockers – Dialekt!

For the unfortunate few who don’t know who you are, would you mind introducing yourselves?

Mat: Dialekt started as a pack of guys who found each other on one of the music ad websites. With no clear direction, it was only a jam session here and there until guitarist Mariano (who had quite a lot of experience from his earlier projects) started pushing for something more. This is also when the name Dialekt emerged, due to the assortment of nationalities in the band (Polish, English and Greek). However as with all new projects, people were coming and going, so a lot of time had passed until the solid and dedicated band was formed. We’ve now been playing together since late 2018, which has allowed us to know each other better, both musically and personally.

In the effort of getting to know each other better – if you could be a sandwich, what sandwich would you be?

Mat: Stuffed bacon and cheese sandwich with hot chili sauce. The one that will save you when you’re dead hungry!

Tell us about your latest release…

Mat: Our latest single The Demons I Hide was released in January, before all the pandemic madness started. It’s a bit different from the other three, with a more ambient and chilled vibe, but also kicks ass when it needs to. The lyrics are pretty dark and touch on the subject of suicide. Because of that, Facebook didn’t allow it to be promoted, so I think we will write something about censorship pretty soon.

Have you had much chance to tour?

Mat: Well we could not really promote this one too much as when the pandemic blasted in March – we had to postpone and eventually cancel all our gigs. The only big one we had a chance to play was the HRH Metal IV festival in Birmingham.

Have you got any crazy tour stories you can share with the world?

Mat: Well, we’re a pretty new band, so I’m sure the crazy story bag will grow large along the way. But I remember that on one of our first gigs we literally blew up the stage. There was quite a delay that day and a lot of bands to squeeze in. Because of that we had to play without a proper sound check. Two songs later we heard a loud ZAP and all the electronics died. This was fixed quite quickly, but I guess this was a valuable lesson for both us and organisers.

Here at Upside Down Shark we discuss a wide breadth of pop-culture, including music, movies, TV, video games and the like. So with that in mind, if you could have a track featured in anything, whether it be any of the above on even a wrestling theme, what would it be?

Mat: I would love to have one of our tracks featured in a video game, something like Doom or Quake would be a good choice for our song The Fight.

Name one thing on your band bucket list

Mat: Play a big ass festival in front of fifty thousand people!

What would be your inspirational quote to share with the world?

Mat: “If at first you don’t succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.”

What does the rest of 2020 have in store for you?

Mat: Honestly, we do not want any more surprises, we’ve already had enough! We would like to record another single closer to the end of the year, but we’re not sure if this will work out. We might just wait a bit longer and release an EP.

What’s your favourite shark?

Mat: The only one I know is the Sharknado shark and Bruce from Jaws!
