An Interview With Bison Face | UDS Interviews

Check out our recent interview with St Albans’ grungiest dudes – Bison Face!

For the unfortunate few who don’t know who you are, would you mind introducing yourselves?

Bison Face: Hi! We are Ernie (Guitar, Vocals), Alex (Guitar), Jonny (Drums) and Arthur (Bison Bass). We’re an alternative/grunge band from St Albans called Bison Face.

In the effort of getting to know each other better – if you could be a sandwich, what sandwich would you be?

Jonny: “The Millennial” –  Avocado and Hummus.

Arthur: No messing about – Cheese Ploughman’s. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Ernie: Some sort of cobbled together hangover pile. Yesterday’s leftovers, vegan bacon and stupidly hot sauce in a bagel. I’ll call it “Tequila Regret”.

Alex: Pretty much going to steal Jonny’s, baguette, vegan soft cheese, avocado, cherry tomatoes and rocket. Chilli sauce , pesto, garlic mayo and olive oil on the bread. The “Poncy Vegan”.

Tell us about your latest release…

Ernie: Our debut single ‘Ladybird’ was released last month on all your friendly neighbourhood streaming platforms. It was one of the first songs I wrote for the project that became Bison Face, so it seemed a fitting debut. We recorded it last year at Forgotten Media Studios and our friend Tom Sharp made us a killer animated video so that’s been doing the rounds with the track. A proper DIY effort. It sounds like grungey desert rock in space.

Have you had a chance to tour yet?

Ernie: Sadly, it was released about a day before the lockdown was implemented here so we haven’t had a chance to play any shows since the release, but Ladybird’s been in the set since the beginning. Same with the impending EP (spoilers). All the shows at the tail end of last year were awesome.

Have you got any crazy tour stories you can share with the world?

Ernie: Hardly any tours to be going at the moment, a highlight was opening for Fangclub in our hometown, that was a real special show. Craziest thing we’ve done was probably a 5-hour practice with no air con or fans, a couple days before our first headline show; Pretty sure Jonny almost died from exhaustion and I think I lost about a stone.

Here at Upside Down Shark we discuss a wide breadth of pop-culture, including music, movies, TV, video games and the like. So with that in mind, if you could have a track featured in anything, whether it be any of the above on even a wrestling theme, what would it be?

Alex: I’d love to have one of our tracks or some kind of ambient soundscape in the new Dune film coming out, I’ve always been a huge fan of the books.

Ernie: I hope they don’t ever make another Blade Runner because it’s unnecessary, but if they do I’d love to compose something for it. That or a Bond theme.

Name one thing on your band bucket list…

Ernie: Opening for Foo Fighters would be rad. That’s like the crazy bucket list dream. But to be able to do this for the rest of our lives is THE dream.

What would be your inspirational quote to share with the world?

Jonny: More Simpsons I think… “Roads are just a suggestion Marge, just like pants”.

Alex: “If I can eat this family size bowl of pasta pesto, I’m sure you can run that 5K”.

Ernie: “Look, if it’s good enough for Jabba then it’s good enough for me…”

What does the rest of 2020 have in store for you?

Ernie: Once the lockdown is lifted the EP will be finished, and then just shows, shows, shows, more shows. It’s been a long time since we’ve played live so once the EP is fully tracked that’s priority number 1. Plus, we’ve got to road test all the new isolation material!

What’s your favourite shark?

Jonny: Gary.

Alex: Basking sharks.

Ernie: Dunno, I’m absolutely shit scared of Great Whites, so probably them out of awe. Or the salsa shark from Clerks.

Many thanks to Bison Face for sitting down to talk with us. Make sure to check them out!
