Our Tommy B spoke to Tommy B of Bad Actress to get the lowdown on Scotland’s hardest rockers!
For the unfortunate few who don’t know who you are, would you mind introducing yourselves?
Tommy B: We are Bad Actress and we play rock ‘n’ roll. If you went down to the deepest pits of hell and found the devil swing dancing with a zombie hooker, we’d be the ones providing the groove.
In the effort of getting know each other better – if you could be a sandwich, what sandwich would you be?
Tommy B: Chicken and bacon ranch melt on Hearty Italian bread. The order I stole from my mate when he first introduced me to Subway.
Tell us about your latest release…
Tommy B: We released our first EP last year titled “Low Down ‘n’ Dirty”. The title track is essentially about being on the dole and getting smashed. A chick came up with the title and I wrote the verses around it.
Have you got any crazy tour stories you can share with the world?
Tommy B: We had two gigs booked for a weekend, supporting the Lost Angels super group in Glasgow and Edinburgh. We were all pretty excited for this outing. We got the van booked and everything, then upon arrival at the first date in Edinburgh we got an email, telling us not to make the trip. Something had happened with the promoter who initially got us the gig. He didn’t mention to any of the venues we were added to the bills, so we were essentially up shit creek without a paddle.
But our singer managed to get us a last minute slot supporting At Their Mercy. We managed to salvage the Saturday. But we weren’t quick to give up, so some of us went down to the original gig to talk to the manager of the Lost Angels tour and we managed to salvage a 20 minute set for the Glasgow date the next day. We were so grateful for that. The guys in Lost Angels and the main support Saints Of Sin were all great to us while we were there.
The moral of the story is don’t give up and accept defeat.
Here at Upside Down Shark we discuss a wide breadth of pop-culture, including music, movies, TV, video games and the like. So with that in mind, if you could have a track featured in anything, whether it be any of the above on even a wrestling theme, what would it be?
Tommy B: I think I’d like to have one of our tracks on the next Brutal Legend game, if it’s ever going to be made!
Name one thing on your band bucket list
Tommy B: I myself never thought about it. The main thing I wanted throughout my whole time in music was to play in the big venue in my local area. Thanks to our friends in King Kobalt, who let us open for their first EP launch in 2017, I could say I finally played the Ironworks venue.
What would be your inspirational quote to share with the world?
Tommy B: “My ethic is: ‘Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.’ You can be as careful as you want, but you’re going to die anyway, so why not have fun?”
― Lemmy Kilmister
I often look to Lemmy for inspiration. That guy was truly unique.
What does 2020 have in store for you?
Tommy B: New music and new equipment so we can sound a bit better. Crossing the border and giving England a run for their money. New faces to melt and friends to make. Let the good times roll.
Name your favourite shark (can be real or fictional).
Tommy B: That asshole baby shark.
